“The Ancient Crypt of Feng-Hou”: A free PDF adventure for low-level characters

December 30, 2013

Yesterday I mentioned that I had some “daft wee adventures” in the pipeline. Well, to celebrate this blog’s second birthday today, here’s one for you.

My friend Craig and I thrashed this thing out over pots of tea and biscuits a-plenty some time last year. It was the first (and so far only) time I’d co-written an adventure, and it was an enjoyable experience. I designed the maps of the dungeon and then we threw ideas around until we’d filled it up. Along the way, we drew some inspiration from books by Gary Gygax and Michael Curtis. We talked and quibbled and rolled dice and scribbled and laughed a lot. We make no great claims for “Feng-Hou” – it’s just an old-school dungeon crawl with goblins, innit – but if you have half as much fun playing (or just reading) it as we did making it, then I think we’ve done alright. Let me know what you think.

Edit: The adventure text is fifteen A5-sized pages, which can be made into a 16-page booklet if you have the technology. The dungeon level maps are A4-sized. Click on the links below. If you encounter any problems downloading the files, please let me know in the comments.
